Lytro Living Field CameraAll I want for Christmas is Lytro!

That is, it would be all I would want if I could get one.  Sadly, Lytro is taking orders for US customers only and won’t be shipping until 2012.

Meanwhile, you can browse some of their “living pictures” on their website.

Lytro basically lets you shoot first, and focus later.  You can also shift the perspective of the scene and switch between 2D and 3D views.  Lytro does this by recording the “light field” - a totally different way of capturing photographs.

Lytro is the brainchild of Ren Ng, and is his Stanford PhD dissertation brought to life.

I love the depth of these photographs, and the ability to bring the foreground (or background) into focus and completely change the composition of the image.

I personally can’t wait to get my hands on a Lytro camera, and wish Ren and his team every success.

    Wedding in Cambridge.

Just snapped this while we were passing.  Unfortunately I don’t know the happy couple, but I wish them well.

    Red sky at night

Took this while sitting for a particularly long time in a queue of traffic at roadworks on the A141 in Cambridgeshire.  Taken with the camera on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.
